For couples who want to skip the production and focus on the actual point of the day. Small guest list, zero stress, and grounds that photograph far better than you’d expect.

We photograph elopements at city halls around the world, and Ottawa still makes our shortlist. Civil Marriage Ceremonies here are exactly what they sound like — simple, legal, and completely focused on the two of you. Up to around 10 guests including the officiant and witnesses, no elaborate production, and none of the stress that comes with planning a large-scale event. For couples who’d rather put that energy and budget toward a honeymoon, it’s a genuinely great option.

The photography here surprises people. The courtyard has large boulders that shoot like you’re somewhere in a rocky canyon — nothing about the images reads “downtown Ottawa.” Inside, the hallways are lined with artwork and sculptures, natural light runs through the building well, and the architectural details give you plenty to work with. Outside, gardens and stone backdrops round out the options. We know the spots, and we always brief couples on the flow before the day.

Some of our favourite wedding days have been the quietest ones. A small group, an honest ceremony, and an afternoon wandering the grounds after. Sometimes keeping it simple is the boldest choice you can make.
