National Gallery of Canada — art, architecture, and Parliament Hill out the window
Designed by Moshe Safdie, filled with natural light, and steps from the Ottawa River. One of our favourite venues in the city to photograph — and not just because of the views.

Art & Architecture
The National Gallery was designed by Moshe Safdie — the architect behind Marina Bay Sands and Singapore’s Jewel Changi airport. That lineage is visible the moment you walk in: soaring glass atrium ceilings, granite and glass throughout, a colonnade that frames Parliament Hill and the Ottawa River like a painting. It’s one of the most architecturally significant buildings in Canada, and it happens to be right here in Ottawa.
For couples who want something with real cultural weight — not just a beautiful room, but a space that means something — this is it. The art on the walls, the light pouring through the atrium, the scale of the spaces. It creates an atmosphere that a traditional banquet venue simply can’t replicate, and your guests will feel that difference all day.
From a photography standpoint, the building does a lot of the heavy lifting. Dramatic architecture, exceptional natural light, and Parliament Hill right outside for portraits. The variety across the venue means we’re never working from the same angle twice. It’s one of those venues where we always leave with something we weren’t expecting.
Planning a wedding at the National Gallery? We’d love to hear what you have in mind — the spaces, the vibe, and the moments that matter most to you.
